Qigong translates as Energy (Qi)* Cultivation (Gong as in Gong-fu means skill acquired over time with practice).

Qigong comes in many varieties or methods.  Their common goal is to develop skills to combine energy, mind, and body in ways that enable healing, internal or external strength,  and Spiritual development.  Empahsis can be placed on breathing, posture, sound, movement, mindfulness and consciousness development depending on the goal that is desired.

This class will introduce breathing, movement and consciousness/meditation practices to relieve stress and enable you to develop your own practice.  We will play with various animal movements whose themes are reflected in Chinese Medicine theories about the major organs and their related energy channels.

Another aspect of the class will be the development of special channels or reservoirs of energy that can serve as a backup energy system to your body.

The tools are simple, the discipline is more difficult but the result is enjoyment and relaxation that are always available to you when you practice.

Qigong classes will provide an experiential grounding in the following

  1. Basic philosophy of Qigong healing and different methods that are in use: e.g. Purging, Tonifying and Regulation of the Primary Channels
  2. Warm-up exercise Dao Yin.  Healing Dao Yin.
  3. Breathing methods
  4. Animal frolics & 5 Phases Qigong
  5. Building and refining Qi in the extraordinary vessels.
  6. Floor exercise & Sitting meditation
  7. The class will be a primer for 5 elements theory and some 8 patterns (Yin/Yang, Heat/Cold etc.) theory.
  8. It will also delve into some of the martial arts background of the movements.
  9. Also there will be imformative discussion and practice of Taoist Spiritual Alchemy as it relates to Qigong process.
